What to know about moving in Vancouver
Prepare for your move to Vancouver with this helpful FAQ section.
Moving costs can vary based on where you are, where you plan to move, the time of year, and other factors. As a result, you may want to consider asking for specific pricing from your preferred moving company. In the meantime, the general pricing you can expect to see includes an average price of $9,060 for full service moves, $3,800 for moving and storage container rentals, and $1,128 for moving van rentals.1
The average cost to rent a self-storage unit is around $180 a month,2 based on national numbers. The average cost of a 10 x 10 foot unit in Vancouver is approximately $58 per month.3 Climate-controlled storage costs more than units without climate control, but they offer better security and control over the environment to protect sensitive items.
An interstate move will take different lengths of time based on how far you’re moving and who you’re working with to move. It takes an average of six to seven weeks to complete the entire moving process,4 if you consider the first moment you book a moving company through the day you finish unpacking your items in your home. If you use a full-service moving company, you may find you can shorten that time, and it may take longer if you use a self-service option.
For a local move, you may want to book as far out as two months from the date of your move,5 especially in the summer when moving companies get busy. In off-seasons, like the winter months, you may be able to book a mover within two to four weeks of your move.
In an emergency, you may be able to find movers within a week or even the same day, but the costs may be increased to account for last-minute bookings. You need to book movers in advance if you want to have the most control over the cost of your move.
