A long-distance moving company helps you with everything from loading to transporting your stuff. It's the most convenient way to move.

We've researched services, customer experience, and availability of the best professional movers to help you find the right moving company for you.

Hiring professionals is expensive, but it doesn't have to break your bank. We’ll help you save money and get the most out of your moving company.

There are a lot of moving parts to any move. Prepare for your full-service move with our handy guides, checklists, and how-tos.

What is a long-distance move?

A long-distance move means you are moving 400 miles or more, and/or moving across state lines. Long-distance moving companies have experienced staff who provide full-service options and coordinate the hardest parts of your move including packing, loading, transport, and unloading. It's the most convenient moving option because it requires the least work from you, but that means you will most likely pay more. See if it's the best option for you.

They handle it all.

Full-service movers load your stuff, ship it to your new home, and unload it all for you. It’s the easiest—but most expensive—option. If you are moving out of state or over 400 miles, you'll need a long-distance, full-service mover. If you're moving within the same state, or under 400 miles, you'll need a local full-service mover.

You load, they drive.

With container movers, you load and unload all of your belongings, but the company provides a portable container to store your stuff, then transports it to your new home. It’s the middle road for effort and cost. Most moving container companies can move either short or long distances, within the same state, or across state lines.

No pit stops required.

If you're moving long-distance, you might want to ship your car. A car shipping company is helpful if you don't want to put extra wear and tear on your car driving it cross-country.

You've got the keys.

Worried about costs? Rent a truck, load it yourself, drive it to your new home, and unload all your things. You save money—but do all the work yourself.
