For reference, the industry average for 100 miles on open transport is $106, and the average price jumps up to $169 if you go with enclosed transport.

Keep in mind that we calculated these averages by gathering dozens upon dozens of quotes. Auto shipping rates fluctuate daily based on factors like move distance, what type of car you’re shipping, and what time of year you’re moving.

Because of this, your American Auto Shipping price could be higher or lower.

Clean car guarantee, you say?

Why we recommend American Auto Shipping

Now that we’ve covered American Auto Shipping’s pricing and services, let’s talk about a few features that make the company stand out.

It has great customer reviews

Across customer review sites, the consensus about American Auto Shipping is almost unanimously positive. In four- and five-star reviews, customers praise the company’s low prices, friendly and informative customer service, and timely deliveries.

Many reviews also highlight the friendliness and professionalism of American Auto Shipping’s delivery drivers, which makes sense. The company requires all auto carriers it works with to background check their drivers.

Of course, there are also a handful of bad reviews on every review site. Some customers will always complain about the same things others applaud. However, the overwhelming majority of American Auto Shipping’s customers had good to excellent experiences.

Little pin

Guaranteed pickup date

Guaranteed pickup date

If you pay for a guaranteed pickup date and the carrier American Auto Shipping brokers your shipment to doesn’t show up on the agreed-upon day, American Auto Shipping will reimburse you $500 to make up for it.

It has a damage-free guarantee

All of the carriers that American Auto Shipping brokers jobs to offer basic coverage, which pays for repair costs if your car gets damaged during transit (as long as the damage is the carrier’s fault). But what happens if your carrier won’t cover the repairs? Most won’t pay to fix things like rock chips or weather damage.

In this instance, you’d be left to pay for the damages with your car insurance policy or out of your own pocket. Luckily, many brokerages offer a little thing called GAP coverage for repairs your carrier won’t cover—usually for an extra fee.

American Auto Shipping does it for free. If your car is damaged by the auto transport carrier, but the carrier won’t pay for it, American Auto Shipping will cover up to $500 toward your deductible.

It gives each customer an auto transportation concierge

Auto shipping can be confusing, especially if it’s your first time. To help you navigate the process, American Auto Shipping assigns you an auto transportation concierge.

This means you always have an individual rep you can call with questions about the shipping process and to get updates about your pickup and drop-off times.

Ideally, this concierge would always be the same person so they’re familiar with your booking. However, American Auto Shipping can’t always guarantee that you’ll be able to reach the same person if the company is especially busy. For instance, if you’re shipping your car in summertime, you might get handed off to another concierge.

FAQ about American Auto Shipping

Can I trust a low price?

When you get a quote that’s below the industry average by a wide margin, it’s natural to think it might be a dishonest quote from a scammy company that’ll hold your stuff hostage or raise your prices on moving day.

We’re happy to report that, after all of our research, we’ve concluded that American Auto Shipping is a trustworthy company that won’t scam you or increase your price at the last minute.

Here’s how we know this:

A binding quote means that the price you’re given will not change if you don’t change anything about your shipment. Of course, a shady company could say they give binding estimates and not uphold them.

If a company is a scam, though, it won’t be licensed through FMCSA. And even if a bad company did register with the FMCSA, its dishonest practices would show through in customer reviews.

If you want to learn more about moving scams and how to spot them, read our guide to moving scams. We also recommend doing careful and thorough research on every company you’re considering for your move.

What if my delivery is late?

If the carrier that delivers your car is way behind schedule, American Auto Shipping will cover a rental car so that you still have something to drive as you’re settling into your new home and commuting to your new job.

Our recommendation

American Auto Shipping has some of the best prices we’ve seen for auto transportation. And, as if low prices weren’t enough, the company goes above and beyond to guarantee customer satisfaction. For these reasons, you should put American Auto Shipping at the top of your short list when you’re looking to ship your car.
