Bottom line: College Hunks Hauling Junk & Moving offers beginning-to-end convenience for junk removal, local moves, and even some long-distance moves. The word “Hunks” in the name is actually an acronym for “honest, uniformed, nice, knowledgeable, service,” and customer reviews frequently mention that every one of the company’s representatives and movers reflects these values.

College Hunks Hauling Junk pricing

Full-service moving prices

College Hunks doesn’t list base prices for its moving services on its website—and pricing varies from location to location—so getting a clear idea of what your move will cost is tricky. However, there is plenty of information about what factors go into College Hunks’ prices, and these can give you a general sense of how your move will add up.

These factors can be broken down into two main categories:

  • Truck and travel fees
  • An hourly rate

Truck and travel fees

College Hunks’ truck and travel fees account for your truck rental, time spent driving, and the price of gas used up during the drive. These fees also include charges for any equipment (dollies, straps, etc.) that the moving crew uses to pack and move your stuff.

The hourly rate

College Hunks’ hourly rate for its services varies between franchises. In other words, your rate is based on where you are. It generally will include a two- or three-hour minimum, and once you hit that amount of time, your rate gets prorated in either 15- or 30-minute increments.

Your time doesn’t start running until the Hunks arrive and begin loading your truck. Since the truck price includes time spent driving for local moves, drive time from your old home to your new one doesn’t count toward your hourly rate. Once the Hunks get the truck to your new home and start unloading, the clock resumes.

Time spent navigating elevators and stairs can also increase your price, so be sure to account for them when you’re budgeting.

Junk removal prices

College Hunks’ prices vary depending on service and location, just like any other moving company. We can help you get a rough idea of what moving or junk removal with College Hunks might cost you, but you’ll need to request a quote to get an accurate estimate.

Load sizeAverage*
Full truck$590
Half truck$372

Junk removal pricing is determined by how much space your junk takes up in a College Hunks truck. Like moving prices, junk removal prices vary based on location, so the total cost for your junk removal project will probably be a little bit different from the averages we obtained.

Getting a quote

College Hunks won’t do moving estimates online or over the phone if your home is larger than 1,500 square feet. Instead, you have to do an in-home evaluation with a College Hunks employee. While it’s a bit of a hassle, this policy protects you as much as it protects the company.

Here’s why: with an in-home estimate, you get accurate pricing info, and you can ask questions specific to your situation. This prevents any unexpected fees from coming up on moving day. After the evaluation, your College Hunks representative will give you a quote that breaks down the price for your move and any additional services you request.

Getting a quote for junk removal with College Hunks works the exact same way as getting a quote for a move.

College Hunks Hauling Junk services

College Hunks’ junk removal

College Hunks’ junk removal services are what really make it stand out from other moving companies. According to the College Hunks blog, it’s the only company that offers both full-service moves and full-service junk removal.1 This service is so important that the company includes it in its name.

With College Hunks’ full-service junk removal, you can bid farewell to renovation debris, old mattresses, disintegrating furniture, and other clutter without lifting a finger. Simply point out what you want removed, then sit back and relax while the Hunks load it into their truck.

Here are some of the most common junk removal jobs that College Hunks can help you with:

  • Garage, attic, and basement cleanup
  • Appliance removal
  • Furniture removal
  • Hot tub removal
  • Mattress disposal and removal

The company can also help you donate any useful items (like a working fridge or a box of clothes) that you don’t need anymore. When you meet with your College Hunks representative, be sure to ask them about donation.

That’s one less thing you have to think about in the middle of your move, renovation, or spring clean.

Fun fact

Up to 70% of the junk that College Hunks collects gets recycled or donated, so you can rest easy knowing that at least some of your old stuff will be put to good use instead of rusting away in a landfill.

College Hunks’ secure storage

If you need a place to store your furniture while you finish settling into your new home—or if you just want to stow your record collection out of sight for a while—College Hunks will keep your stuff safe and sound.

College Hunks’ indoor storage facilities are climate controlled to prevent heat and weather damage to any of your furniture, documents, or collectibles. This can be a bit more expensive than renting a storage container and keeping it on your property, but it comes with all the perks of a secure facility—including guards, gates, alarms, and cameras.

The average industry price for climate-controlled storage units can range between $75 and $225 per month. Like all of College Hunks’ other services, the exact price for storage will vary depending on your location. College Hunks’ demolition and labor services

When someone mentions demolition, do you think of a wrecking ball destroying a skyscraper? Us too. It’s very fun to watch, but probably not something you want to see happen to your home.

But if you’re remodeling your kitchen, renovating your master bedroom, or turning your den into an open-concept living room, then small-scale demolition with hammers, crowbars, and saws is an important first step you might want some help with.

College Hunks can start your project off on the right foot by demolishing and clearing out different parts of your home:

  • Decks and patios
  • Walls
  • Kitchens
  • Cabinets
  • Carpet and flooring
  • Bathrooms
  • Sheds
  • Playsets

College Hunks charges an hourly rate for these services, and the prices change from one location to another. If you need to demolish something we haven’t listed, ask your College Hunks representative if the Hunks can still help you out.

Other hourly labor

College Hunks can also help you with nearly any hard project you’re doing around your home, including packing and unpacking before your move, carrying heavy boxes upstairs, rearranging your furniture, and staging your living space. You’ll pay an hourly rate for any work the Hunks do.

What we think

College Hunks is a convenient resource for decluttering your home, planning a big move, or undertaking a renovation. Since College Hunks doesn’t list prices on its website, a little legwork and coordination with the company is required—but you’re rewarded with relief that comes from knowing exactly what your project will cost.

Like we’ve said, College Hunks might not be your best option for a long-distance move, but you can find the right company for the job by reading about our favorite interstate movers.

Hi my name is Shawna and this the first time I have used college hunks. They set up a last minute estimate appointment with Susan. She is so knowledgeable and friendly, it was really easy to speak with here.
On the day of the move, Adam and Andrew were so awesome. Thdy got right to it. Friendly crew. Great person alities.
    I would recomend them 110%.

  • Katie D

Recommend to anyone looking for a great moving company! Dan and Tony were wonderful. They took care of all my items, moved everything in a timely manner, super friendly, and made my move so much easier! Along with that, it was really easy to set up the move. They gave me a accurate time/cost estimate and were very helpful and friendly. Justin called me about a week before to confirm everything, which I also found helpful. I will never use another company for moving company again after having such great luck with them, thank you College Hunks!

  • Jen Fekete

We hired them to move 6 pieces of furniture. They wrapped all of it in blankets and proceeded to drop everything. Now all of our furniture is damaged. The corners have been crushed, scratched, chipped or dented. Tape was appied to hold the blanket which stripped off the finish of the furniture. They broke the leg off our table. In an effort to be quick they were careless. When it came time to pay they even expected a tip! We filed for insurance but after sending photos they still have not responded. This has been the worst moving company experience. We have moved over 10 times and not had a problem with other movers. Do not hire College Hunks you will end up spending more to replace the stuff they will inevitably destroy.

DO NOT USE!! I give this moving company ZERO stars!! I had a sales associate, Gage a manager scheduled to come to my home on Aug 15, 2019 between 12 – 2 pm. He calls to reschedule for the next day, August 16, 2019 at 10 am. I actually had to squeeze him into my schedule. GAGE…. HE IS A MANAGER… NEVER SHOWED UP, NOR DID HE EVEN CALL. I called this company at 11 am, 1 hr after my appt., mind u I had another appt at 11:30 am. Called this company, their records didn’t reflect the day and time change. The sales associate, Gage calls me to once again reschedule same day at 1 pm. I don’t know about other people but we sold our home, we don’t have time to go after someone wondering and finding out, where are you! EXTREMELY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Does this company actually think I would trust them after this? No way… I called and canceled this second rescheduled appt.

** Long but worth the read, super bad experience with College Hunks **
I requested moving help from College Hunks for Dec 14th. Jeremy (the owner) came out on Thursday at 10AM. He looked around the house, asked a few questions. Told him both beds were not going. We let him know we were currently packing and would have boxes to take as well. He never asked how many boxes or any other questions. Never showed us a manifesto. Didn’t have us read over his notes. Stated we were good for Saturday at 2PM. That same day, I got a phone call stating the move was going to have a window from 2-4. I stressed the fact that we had elevators reserved in Charlotte from 4-8 and it was imperative to have it done in that time frame. They said it would not be an issue. On the day of the move, at 3pm I had not heard from anyone. So I called and was told my window was from 3-5PM. I asked why the window moved, without me being advised of the change. No response, except to call driver and have him verify his time. When I called the driver, the only thing he would tell me is to expect him between 4:30 – 4:45. I told him to please call me and confirm. At 5:05PM I called him back and he finally told me that he was on the way. I asked over and over for an ETA he finally said 6PM. When I asked why this drastic time change. His only response was, you are asking the wrong person. I am only a driver. At this point, I had no choice but to use the service. My helper and I had ALREADY MOVED ALL THE BOXES OUTSIDE and all the furniture into the Livingroom right by the door. About 20 minutes after they finally arrive. My helper calls me to tell me, the drivers showed up WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S THINGS ON THE TRUCK!! They only had space for very few things. I can’t believe they do not disclose this information prior to doing business with people. After speaking to the driver, he said to call his manager. He had no control over what had happened. I spoke to Kelly and he said that Jeremy only put about 5 items on the list to be picked up and that it would fit. I told him that was false and there was no way, I would put my belongings in the same truck with someone else. When I told him, I was concerned over bedbugs, roaches and who knows what else, he started to laugh. I do not think this is funny. I am pretty sure who ever owned the stuff on that truck wouldn’t be laughing either! But due to time constraints, I allowed them to take the furniture. The plan was for them to take those items and drop it off at my apartment in Charlotte. Go to their warehouse and get an empty truck to move my boxes. When they showed back up in Kannapolis, they loaded up the boxed and then told my helper that they refused to take 6 items. Which included lamps, a vacuum and glass shelves that belonged to a dresser they had moved. Their reasoning was it wasn’t on the manifesto. Despite the fact that items on that list where never moved and the things left, where actually what was on the list. At this point, it was 9:30 at night! I called Kelly and told him I wanted to speak to Jeremy prior to paying. He said that wouldn’t happen until Monday. I told him, then we will pay Monday. He didn’t disagree. Well, when the drivers showed up in Charlotte. They held my belongings HOSTAGE and told me that I had to pay, or the stuff doesn’t come off the truck. I got Kelly back on the phone, since Jeremy never bothered to answer any of my calls or voicemails. Kelly and I negotiated 2.5 hours max! ($118 per hour) I gave them a check and moved on. However, when I got the receipt. It only had a full dollar amount. I called College Hunks 12/16 they finally sent me a line item receipt. Come to find out, they charged me 3.5 hours. Today 12/17 I called Kelly back and asked for a reasoning behind the difference in charges. First, he said it was drive time and truck fee. But then he said it was a labor charge. However, my invoice shows hours. No separate charges. This has been the worst most unprofessional experience I have ever had to deal with on a simple 30-mile move. Please save yourself the stress and distasteful business practices and find ANOTHER MOVING COMPANY!!!

  • Our House

Terrible in my area. Made an appointment for an estimate for 0730 am to 0930 am and no one showed or got back with me till i called them then i got i’m sorry you will have to reschedule.

  • Cynthia White

Can I give them a 0? The customer service team makes you think you will have a “stress free” move. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I have moved many times throughout the year and NEVER i my life has it taken 7 hours to move my one bedroom apartment to a new home 10 minute up the street. That is with 3 men – Sam, Devon and Diamonte. The incompetence, negativity, complaints, whining and lack of professionalism and skill was beyond belief. And be sure they don’t break anything. Not because of the insurance, which I think is industry standard, but because you may have to correspond with Audriauna who is rude, callous, and generally not a nice person. So unless you want to be lied to, over pay and have a poor experience, don’t call College Hunks.

These guys are the best ! Very professional and on time. They called ahead of time to confirm. Will highly recommend them !
Will be calling in a few weeks to use them again.

Yesterday I used College Hunks Hauling Junk for the first time to remove a fridge from my home in St. Albert, AB. The appointment was made for 2-4pm but I got a call shortly after 12 saying they could come earlier. Shay and Justin were very courteous and responsive to my concerns and suggestions about which door to go through in order to get it out of the house. They were able to move it out fairly quickly and without leaving a scratch on a wall or door. I was very impressed and would recommend this company to my friends.

After looking at the truck before it left I could see that there was plenty of room to take what yard waste was left and didn’t think it was my duty to argue with your workers about how they are told to load a truck. We pay a premium to have waste removed, we paid for a FULL truck. I have seen yard crews making minimum wage do a better job filling trucks to get the job done. I took pictures just to show that there was no yard waste even sticking up above the top of the bed, hell they didn’t even need the tarp cover at that point. Our yard still has waste left out front and if any of our neighbors ask, they know it was on you guys since they saw the truck with your advertisement on it out front. I have used other services such as 1-800-Junk, Junk King and others and figured I would give you guys a shot, never again! What I will do, is tell everyone that asks on social media, word of mouth or otherwise what a half ass job you guys do. Picture is AFTER they filled the truck, again $589.00 we paid, not only is the truck NOT full; look at all the waste that is left. This is also while we were sick with COVID, so we couldn’t take care of this ourselves…
