What to know about moving in Corpus Christi

The cost to move to Corpus Christi, Texas, depends on the way you’re moving and where you’re coming from. Full-service moves cost between $1,200 and $29,000 per move with an average price of $9,060.1 On the other hand, using moving and storage containers can bring down the price to an average of $3,800. Moving van rentals can be even more affordable, costing as little as $120 and up to $4,000 (around $1,128 on average per move).

You should also consider distance when calculating the cost of your move. A move from a nearby city to Corpus Christi is always going to be cheaper than if you’re moving from the East Coast to the state for the first time, for example. To calculate your move’s cost, make sure you ask the moving company its basic rates and about any extra costs that may accrue for packing materials, extra hours, and loading or unloading support.

On average, you can expect an interstate move to take between 15 and 20 days.2 The time that it takes for you to move between states will depend on factors such as:

  • The weather
  • Mechanical issues with your moving vehicles
  • Moving date delays

It’s important to have realistic expectations. Long-distance moving companies will use tractor trailers to move your home most of the time. They may want to consolidate the load along the trip, meaning that they may need to grab a few other people’s loads while on the way to the final destination.

Movers can’t always guarantee a delivery date unless you purchase the full trailer for a straight delivery. To save time, you may have to spend a little more money.

If you’re going to be moving yourself, an interstate move may not take as long since it’s a direct drive. However, you do need to factor in the time you need to stop for breaks and meals. You may also need to consider staying in a hotel or visiting someone you know overnight to rest on a long move.

Interstate moves will take at least a few hours longer than the drive time, too, because you have to remember that you’ll need time to pack, load and unload the truck, get fuel, and make time for traffic.

Donating items you don’t want to move is simple. There are many charities that will accept your items.

Not interested in donating to a charity? You may want to consider donating to your local neighborhood or school system instead. For books or newspapers, magazines or novellas, consider dropping off a box of items at your local library. For extra food, a local food bank or neighborhood kitchen/pantry may be great places to donate what you have left.

A local move can vary widely in cost depending on home size, distance you’re moving, number and type of belongings, and time of year. The average cost for a local move costs an average of $170 with a rental truck (you do all the work) and $1,680 with a moving container (you load and unload and a moving container company transports your belongings).1

When you’re choosing a moving company, you may want to look for a flat-rate company or one that guarantees a specific day rate. This will, hopefully, reduce the likelihood of unexpected expenses.
