How we chose the Best Movers of 2026
At Move.org, we’ve spent years evaluating every corner of the moving industry — from full-service moving companies and car shippers to moving containers, truck rentals, storage providers, and labor-only services.
For the 2026 Best Movers Awards, we expanded our approach to reflect a simple reality: people don’t search for movers by category — they search by need.
That’s why this year’s awards focus on how companies perform in real-world moving scenarios, not just within their industry category.
We evaluated movers based on real-world use cases
Instead of limiting companies to traditional categories (e.g. full-service mover or moving container company), we assessed how well they perform in situations people actually face when planning a move, like:
- Moving on a budget
- Planning a long-distance relocation
- Handling a local or last-minute move
- Managing storage during a transition
- Navigating a move for the first time
This approach lets us compare different types of moving services — like containers, truck rentals, and full-service movers — on equal footing when they solve the same problem.
We built category-specific scoring systems
Each type of moving service was evaluated using custom criteria based on what matters most for that service.
Here's a rundown of what we considered (at a minimum) for each type of service:
- Full-service movers: Licensing, damage protection, packing services, pricing transparency/accuracy, and customer experience
- Moving containers: Flexibility, durability, pricing structure, and storage options
- Truck rentals: Fleet availability, pricing accuracy, and ease of use
- Car shipping companies: Pricing transparency, delivery reliability, vehicle protection, and customer experience
- Storage providers: Accessibility, security, and integration with other moving services
These criteria help us judge every company fairly within its area of expertise.
We mystery-shopped and analyzed real customer experiences
We posed as customers to request quotes, test booking processes, and evaluate how clearly companies communicate pricing, policies, and timelines.
We also analyzed hundreds of customer reviews, complaints, and company responses across multiple platforms to identify patterns — both positive and negative.
This helps us understand how well each company lives up to its promises.
We verified credentials and industry standing
We researched companies using industry sources like the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to confirm:
- Proper licensing and registration
- Safety records
- Insurance and compliance standards
- Good standing/participation in organizations like the American Trucking Associations (ATA)
We excluded companies with unresolved regulatory issues, confusing carrier/broker status, excessive and consistent customer complaints, or misleading pricing practices.
We consulted industry expertise
Our research is informed by years of coverage and conversations with moving professionals, our membership in the ATA, and insights from real customers navigating moves of all sizes. This combination of expert knowledge and real-world feedback helps us evaluate both operational quality and customer experience.
We prioritized clarity, value, and trust
Every award in this list reflects a company that delivers in a specific, meaningful way — whether that’s offering predictable pricing, flexible moving options, or a high level of service. Rather than naming a single “best mover,” our goal is to help you find the right moving solution for your situation.
What makes a Move.org award different
Each award highlights a distinct strength and is given to a single winner, making it a clear, credible recognition of performance in that category. Our winners represent companies that stand out in a crowded and often confusing industry — and that we’d confidently recommend based on our research.
