Bottom line: Go Mini’s gets excellent reviews and has easy-to-understand prices, but it doesn’t have long-distance moving services, and its moving containers are often sold out.

Go Mini’s opened its doors in 2002 as a moving and storage company and has grown to nearly 80 US locations. The company gets higher reviews than our best moving container companies but doesn’t offer long-distance moving services. Prices and availability vary widely from franchise to franchise, but most Go Mini’s locations have easy-to-understand prices that put other container companies to shame.

How much does Go Mini’s cost?

Go Mini’s costs approximately $380 (before taxes) for an in-town move—but prices and fees vary widely by franchise location. Franchises charge a monthly container fee of roughly $210 plus an average delivery fee of around $170 (or about $90 each time the company transports your container).

Note: Storage at a Go Mini’s facility doesn’t typically cost extra, but you should check with your local franchise to be sure.

We contacted six Go Mini’s locations to get quotes for moving container services. Prices and container availability varied by location. Our average costs combine the estimates of Go Mini’s locations in Denver, CO and Houston, TX (the only two franchises that provided all requested quotes).

Cost factors

Several factors affect your Go Mini’s moving container cost:

  • Container rental. Go Mini’s charges a monthly fee that varies by location.
  • Delivery fees. Go Mini’s charges a flat franchise-specific fee each time the company loads your container onto a truck.
  • Other fees. Fees can vary from one Go Mini’s franchisee to another. For example, while most locations don’t have extra fees for mileage or storage, some do. You’ll want to check with your local franchisee to learn more.

Coverage options

Most Go Mini’s franchises we talked with offer insurance coverage through third-party companies. However, the franchises were unable to provide coverage details. We recommend you ask how much insurance costs—and how much it covers—when you call for a quote.

Go Mini’s features and services

Local moving container services

Go Mini’s offers moving container services for local moves, but not long-distance ones. The storage company delivers a container to your home and lets you fill it up. When you’re ready, Go Mini’s will pick up the container and take it to your new home—or let you keep it at one of its storage facilities. The company has 79 locations in 23 US states.

Monthly portable storage

Go Mini’s lets you use its storage facilities if your new home isn’t ready when your belongings arrive. In most cases, you'll pay only the monthly cost for the storage container, whether it's stored at your home or a Go Mini's facility

Multiple container sizes

Go Mini’s has three container sizes to choose from—including a 20-foot container (the largest on the market). The containers use powder-coated steel construction with aluminum tops (the high-quality construction is similar to PODS’s moving containers). They also come with padded wheels to prevent scratches on your driveway.

While its older containers use standard garage doors, Go Mini’s newer containers have barn style doors (check with a Go Mini’s rep to ask about availability). Barn doors give you a little extra room and don’t get jammed if your stuff moves around during transport.

Things to know about Go Mini’s

Go Mini’s get exceptional customer reviews

Go Mini’s has the best customer reviews of any moving container company we’ve seen. Its average review rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars is nearly a full star higher than our best portable storage companies. Customers frequently praise Go Mini’s professional customer service, low costs, and easy-to-understand prices.

It has easy-to-understand prices

Go Mini’s makes it easy to understand how much you pay. That’s not the case for many container companies that charge a long list of fees you have to add on your own. Go Mini’s has two basic fees: monthly rental costs and delivery fees (you get charged each time the company loads your container onto a truck).

Go Mini’s doesn’t do long-distance moves

Go Mini’s offers local moves only, so you’re out of luck if you need to do much more than go across town. The company’s definition of a local move varies from franchise to franchise, but we never found one that would go more than 100 miles. In most cases, Go Mini’s said your home needs to be within 25 miles of its storage facilities.

It has limited availability

Go Mini’s has limited availability in two significant ways:

  1. Locations. Go Mini’s is available in less than half of the country (23 states) and has only 79 US locations. No other moving container company has fewer locations, which means it can be tricky to find a Go Mini’s in your area.
  2. Containers. Go Mini’s containers were sold out in two-thirds of our calls, making it challenging to get even basic quotes. The company often had only one large container available. That can boost costs if you have a small apartment but must pay for a large container designed for a big home.

Our recommendation

Go Mini’s has some of the most straightforward prices we’ve seen. That’s a big deal in an industry known for confusing fees.

The company also has high-quality containers and gets excellent customer reviews. But it’s hard to find a Go Mini’s facility (it’s available in only 23 states). Plus, it doesn’t offer long distance services—and its containers are typically sold out.

If you can’t find a Go Mini’s nearby, it’s worth checking with one of our best moving container companies.

Methodology

Move.org follows a five-step process to identify the nation’s best moving container companies:

  1. Compare quotes. We collected over 100 quotes from seven of the nation’s largest moving container companies to identify pricing trends.
  2. Mystery shopping. We do a top-to-bottom analysis of each company’s website and even call posing as customers. It helps us get a feel for what real-life customers experience.
  3. Analyze reviews. We read dozens of reviews for each company to see what most impresses (and turns off) customers. We also ran the numbers for more than 7,000 total reviews to calculate an industry customer review average.
  4. Site visits. We invite industry experts and company executives to visit our headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. We grill them on everything from pricing and customer reviews to insurance coverage and the latest industry trends.
  5. Annual review. Every year, we repeat the process to ensure that our list of the best moving container companies stays current. That means things like our top recommendations and industry prices may change from year to year.
