What to know about moving in Amarillo

Moving to or from Amarillo can cost a few hundred dollars or several thousands depending on where you’re coming from, how much you’re moving, and other factors. Take a look at the national average cost of moving services to help determine how much you’ll need to save for your big move. As of mid-2022, the average cost of a moving van rental was $1,128. The average cost was approximately $3,800 for a moving container, and a full-service move was about $9,060.1

Amarillo, TX, is known for being a stop on Route 66. It’s also particularly famous for The Big Texan Steak Ranch’s steak challenge. For people who enjoy the arts, Amarillo has several popular art shows and well-known theaters.

Along with these enjoyable entertainment options, Amarillo is also known for horseback riding, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, The Cadillac Ranch, and the Amarillo Zoo.

Amarillo is located in Texas, which has a relatively high utility cost compared to other states. Texas ranks 10th out of all states based on a ranking from 1 to 50 (1 is the most expensive state for utility costs). In 2021, Texas ranked 22nd, so it’s getting more expensive over time.2

Utilities tend to cost more for Texans because of extreme weather conditions, a growing population and a deregulated electric market.

Interstate moving is pricey, but the price you’ll pay will depend on which state you’re coming from and where you’re going. The time of year and amount of help you need will also make a difference. Interstate Moving & Relocation Group states that an average interstate move costs between $500 and $5,000 depending on location.3 A cheaper alternative could be to use a container service or to move by hiring a moving van and doing your own self-service move.
